Camp Names - Your Guide to Girl Scout Summer Camp

Looking for a camp name? Or maybe some information on why we have camp names?

One fun part about camp for the counselors is

Ever wonder why the counselors have such fun names? The relationship between counselors and campers is a special one. Calling the counselors 'Mrs.' is too formal for the camp setting, and counselors are advisers/teachers/helpers/guardians and so  calling counselors by their first names is too familiar. Having something different and fun fits right in with the camp spirit!

Many camps I've been to have had a few counselors that have a hard time picking names, so here is a list of ideas you can pick or to help get you started thinking.

    1. It may be a bit of a hard decision, but go with something you won't mind having yelled at you by a hundred little girls at once, all summer long. Beware, at some camps, if you don't choose, they choose one for you!

    1. The first few years I had 'zigg', I felt that it didn't really fit me and that I was an odd one out compared to what the other CIT's and counselors had. I finally came into my own with it and my name is just as unique as I am! You may have to grow into it differently, look at it differently, or change it! (My first camp name was 'Flower' from the skunk from Bambi. Yeah, I don't like to relive that!) If you are looking for a new name, find something that you love and go off of that!

    1. I've heard of a couple of those, such as ducky and stitch. I love when counselors come up with crazy ones that fit them. I think the most memorable one for me was a counselor I met when I was little who's name was 'Clog'!

    2. i know a couple counselors who have crazy ones like Tabasco, Captain Crunch, Skippy, Rubics, Cookie Monster, Optumis Cow, Magic Marker, Sprite, Tampico, Spooder, Thing Seven, Yoda, 'J', Lucky, Q Ball or 'Q', and Nettles. They all got their name from something they did or what was on them.

  7. Specs. I wear color coordinated eyeglasses and I'm very freckled. When I ask the girls why I might have that name they always go with the freckles, but it is really originated because of the glasses. --O-O-- We wait for names to bubble up, when the right one arrives everyone knows it.

  8. My daughter is a huge One Direction fan and selected her camp name as Compass because a compass always points in Wait for it... one direction.

  9. my camp name is Peace. I feel like it fits me as a whole person because I am in generally a peaceful person. Also during the none campers weeks at my camp I am known to be found first thing in the mornings to be found reading on the front pouch of the dinning hall enjoying the calm and peace before the day. I also love camp names that fit a person's personality some of my favorite camp names still are Gizmo, Rerun, KBee, and Mistea these names fit the people I remember there personalities.

    1. Can you give me more about her personality? Some things that she likes to eat, maybe things she likes to do? I could help, but I would need a little more about her.

  13. I can't think of a name! My mom suggested Noodles, but I think it is too silly, and I don't know if I really want a bunch of girls shouting Noodles at me all week. I also liked Skittles, and Lucky, but again, I don't think they fit me. I am usually happy and I like to read and write. I am also usually very optimistic. Please help me, I have camp next week!

  15. My camp name is Drama Queen which I love bc I am an Actress! So I would suggest to y'all having trouble to look in between the lines. If u love Ballet instead of making your name Ballet you could make it Tutu or Plie. Just be creative!
